In 1889 a meeting of local businessman met in Old Portsmouth. And they went on to form which is now known as Portsmouth Football Club . Around The Turn Of The Century Portsmouth were elected to the southern League where they stayed to the early 1920s Portsmouth Football Club nickname was known as Pompey to this present day nobody really knows how this nickname was named and who thought of the idea in the 1930s Pompey one promotion to the First Division. In 1929 Pompey reached the FA Cup final but they lost to Bolton Wanderers in the final. Pompey were back at Wembley for the FA Cup final of 1934 against Manchester City but it proved once more that

Luck was not on Pompey side has Manchester City won the cup that day Pompey never gave up in 1939 it wood turn out to be third time lucky as Pompey FA Cup winners after they’ve beat hot favourites Wolverhampton Wanderers by 4 goals to 1 by September of 1939 the Second World War broke out so from 1939 – 1945 Pompey howed the FA cup. The glory days after the Second World War Pompey were back in action they were in the First Division in 1948 Pompey champions of England with Jimmy Dickinson the clubs most famous player. President of the football club at this time . was field Marshal Montgomery. In 1949-50 Pompey were champions of England for a second time in a row. Back to back champions Portsmouth were in the first division . to 1959. Sadly Portsmouth relegated to the second division. Pompey wood stay in this division to 1974. And were relegated to Division 3 in the forthcoming years Portsmouth football club wood end up in the 4th division. Not good times for the club in 1980 Portsmouth began to clall their way back promotion to the third division and then promotion to the championship in 2002 Harry Redknapp became Pompey manager with the help of new chairman Milan mandaric they put a good team together. That season and Pompey went on to won the championship. So now portsmouth were once more back to the premier league. We started in Premiership for 7 long years. In 2008 Pompey were back at Wembley for the 2008 FA cup final portsmouth 1 v Cardiff city 0 thay took the cup on a open top bus parade around Portsmouth 250,000 people lined the streets. Over the next few years Portsmouth got into a lot of financial trouble they went into administration 3 times the only way they could be saved was when the supporters Trust took over the club when the fans were in charge of Pompey Football Club there were no dets and Pompey once again began their long trip back in 2018 the Pompey supporters’ Trust sold there shares to Michael eisner the former chairman of Walt Disney and paramount pictures the club was sold for around 7 million. So to the present we are in league division one at this moment we are forth in the table and hopefully this season we may well be promoted or playing the play offs. Play up Pompey.
